Illinois district approves $1 million tech plan

Alton School District is set to become the latest area district to implement one-to-one technology program.

The Board of Education approved the approximately $1 million lease-purchase agreement with Carrollton Bank at Tuesday’s meeting. With the agreement, the district will purchase roughly 3,200 Google Chromebooks for student use and 220 laptops for teachers, according to District Business Manager Chris Norman.

Alton isn’t the first school district in the area to upgrade its technology presence in recent years. East Alton-Wood River High School is nearing completion of its first year with a one-to-one computer system, and Edwardsville School District recently approved a $600,000 lease-purchase agreement to replace 518 computers throughout the district.
