Inspections show nearly 20 percent of buses in Missouri are not safe

Although it's the last day of school for Columbia students, safety is in the spotlight. The latest school bus inspections by the Missouri State Highway Patrol show nearly 20 percent of buses in Missouri are not safe.

Troopers inspected nearly 12,000 buses across the state. Of those, 405 buses failed inspections and 42 of those are in Mid-Missouri.

However, Jefferson City Public School District was one of 258 school districts to receive the Total Fleet Excellence Award. Districts have to earn at least a 90 percent approval rating without having any of its buses failing the inspection.
