Irving ISD chooses superintendent-to-be from a far tinier district

Jose Parra, who helped turn around test scores and graduation rates for Lockhart ISD’s 5,000 students, has been tapped to take over a district seven times its size.

Irving school trustees unanimously named Parra as the lone superintendent finalist after a months-long search, private interviews and a closed-door meeting Thursday evening.

The district expects to hire Parra to replace Dana Bedden in mid-December, after a three-week waiting period.
