The Fresno County Board of Education trustees voted Thursday to appoint deputy superintendent Jim Yovino to serve as superintendent of schools until the end of the current term, which expires in December 2014.
Yovino, 56, who will be sworn into office at the June 20 board of education meeting, replaces Superintendent Larry L. Powell. Powell's resignation was accepted by the trustees Thursday. Yovino has been with the county office of education for seven years.
"Appointing Jim Yovino as the superintendent will provide ongoing stability and continuous leadership to the Fresno County Office of Education," Powell said in a statement. "I look forward to his accomplishments as he leads the county office into the next era."
