Kansas district votes for $17 million school bond

Paola voters approved Paola USD 368’s proposed $17 million school bond Tuesday with 531 “yes” votes to 287 “no” votes, according to unofficial election results posted on the county’s website.

Bond projects will include safety and security improvements at all of the schools (including remodeled entryways and cameras), tornado shelters at all district facilities (including additional classroom space and a new expanded competitive gym at Paola High School that will seat 600 more people), construction of a new district baseball, softball and tennis complex that will be located northeast of Cottonwood Elementary (including synthetic turf on the infield of the softball and baseball fields), renovations to Paola Middle School (including restrooms and the auditorium), renovating and expanding Panther Stadium (including installing synthetic field turf, a new track, press box and expanded seating), resurfacing district parking lots at Paola High School and Cottonwood Elementary, constructing a new animal lab and classroom for Paola High School and constructing a new biology greenhouse for the high school.

Paola City Council Ward 2 incumbent Gee Gee Wilhoite also was reelected to her position over challenger Michael Oldfield by a vote of 41 to 14, according to the unofficial results.
