Largest N.Y. charter seeks 41 percent enrollment increase

The largest charter school by enrollment in New York State is situated in Tonawanda.

The Charter School for Applied Technologies wants to get even bigger.

The K-12 Kenmore Avenue school has requested an amendment to its charter from the state Education Department to increase its enrollment quota to 2,365 from 1,675 over the course of three years.

CSAT’s annual lottery includes many more applicants than there are open spots. For its current school year, it received 1,172 applications for 147 open slots. CSAT currently has a wait list exceeding 1,000 students.
