Leaders at odds on cost of South Dakota school funding

As South Dakota lawmakers start a study about the future of education in South Dakota, money is — as usual — a key division.

On Monday, lawmakers and educators clashed over how much money they even should be talking about in their study of how to improve South Dakota schools.

“Why are we sitting here?” Education Secretary Melody Schopp told lawmakers. “It’s not just so you can give schools more money.”
