Less visibility for charter schools is unwise

Suppose you are deciding whether to send your child to a traditional public school or a charter school.

You gather information, including how well each school pays teachers. Public school salaries are a matter of record. If you check into most charter schools, their records are also public.

But under a proposal from the General Assembly, the records of some charter schools, including the new Capitol Encore Academy in Fayetteville, won't have to be shared with you. That's because this school contracts with a private management company, Romine Group of Michigan.
