The Silver Lake Regional School Committee has authorized its attorney to begin negotiating a power purchase agreement with renewable energy developer Mary O’Donnell for a solar project in Dartmouth.
With a 20-year agreement in place, there would be the potential for $10.6 million in energy cost savings, including $76,000 in the first year and $306,000 in the final year.
School Committee member Robyn Kincaid, of Kingston, expressed concern about the length of the contract. Twenty-year agreements are typical in the industry, according to Superintendent John Tuffy.
