A 70,000-square-foot charter school is under construction near Marlins Park in Miami and its students will get to intern with the team’s executives.
Given the popularity of the Miami Marlins’ executives, or lack thereof, those should be some interesting lessons.
The Sports Leadership and Management Charter Middle and High School (SLAM) will have a capacity of 980 students and should open in the fall. It’s being developed by Academia, a national charter school management company, and the non-profit Mater Academy. The seven-story building will include a 500-seat gym.
Students will learn about athletic training, media and public relations for sports, physical therapy and sports business, including advertising, being an agent and management.
