Michigan district names Catherine Cost as superintendent

Three candidates seeking the superintendent’s job gave solid presentations and straight-forward answers to school board questions in a second round of interviews Tuesday night, but one candidate stood out above the others.

While the consensus of the board was that they couldn’t go wrong in hiring any of the three — Catherine Cost, Carl Shultz or Thomas Kell — they were united in their choice of Cost to lead the district in the years ahead.

Tuesday’s interviews wrapped up a three-month search process that resulted in the selection of four candidates that included Charles Muncatchey, who took part in first-round interviews. The board invited Cost, Shultz and Kell to return Tuesday night in a format that allowed a short presentation by each candidate, followed by one question from each of the seven board members.
