Michigan school wins share of $5 million tech grant

By next school year, Ann J. Kellogg Elementary School will put an iPad or Google Chromebook in the hands of each of its students after the school won a share of a $5 million technology grant.

Ann J. will share the grant, from the state but administered through the Genesee Intermediate School District, with 13 other schools across Michigan. About $850 per student will go to the Battle Creek Public Schools elementary by this fall, Principal Ronnie Sims said Monday.

Details of the grant were still being worked out, BCPS Technology Supervisor Chad Osborn said. But the plan was to implement a one-to-one program at the school, giving every student a piece of technology they could use at school and at home. The iPads would likely go to younger students and the Chromebooks would go to older ones, Osborn said.
