Middle school "sexting" in Illinois now a police matter

Students who were involved in sexting inappropriate images at a Barrington middle school were the first to alert a school counselor to the existence of the offending photos, school officials said Tuesday.

The students who came forward were part of a "small group" of eighth-grade boys and girls at Barrington Middle School Station Campus whom police and administrators have identified as using their smartphones to send the inappropriate pictures to each other.

But some of those images were then "unknowingly re-distributed" to other students, said Jeff Arnett, spokesman for Barrington Community Unit School District 220.
