Mississippi eyes takeover of Greenwood school district

State officials will consider taking control of the Greenwood school system Tuesday.

Mississippi's Commission on School Accreditation will consider declaring a state of emergency at its meeting, the state Department of Education announced Thursday. The state Board of Education could affirm the action at a meeting scheduled Wednesday.

Gov. Phil Bryant must approve the emergency declaration before officials can appoint a conservator, removing from office the current superintendent and school board.
