Missouri District Predicting Another Year Without Tax Hike

The North Kansas City School District is predicting another year without a tax rate increase.

School district officials presented a preliminary 2012-13 budget that would maintain the district’s tax levy at $5.8898 per $100 of assessed valuation.Although the $233.2 million budget won’t be made final until August when Clay County provides the district with updated assessed valuation figures, Chief Financial Officer Paul Harrell said he thinks the tax rate will remain flat. “We have held this rate for the last five years,” he told board members at their regular board meeting last week.

Despite a challenging economy, the district has been able to maintain the rate through budget reductions, a conservative budgeting philosophy, and increases to sales tax revenue and state funding.
