Missouri lockdown leads to proposed new law

House committee members expressed some support Monday for a bill prompted by a reporter’s efforts to test security at Kirkwood High School that resulted in a lockdown last month.

Bill sponsor Rep. Stacey Newman, D-Richmond Heights, said Monday that information about school security needs to be private to ensure that procedures are effective. The bill, heard by the House Crime Prevention and Public Safety Committee, would make actions like those of a KSDK television reporter a felony.

Jennifer Wilton, a Kirkwood High parent, told legislators she was terrified when her sons started texting her during the lockdown.
