Carthage (Mo.) R-9 School District students went to work on Feb. 28th as part of Hacemos' National High School Technology Day. They spent the day job shadowing at the AT&T Call Center to get a first hand look at different careers in technology.
This initiative was started by "Hacemos," an AT&T employee foundation that's designed to generate interest and provide scholarships to Hispanic students and other minority groups who are historically underrepresented in math, technology, and science careers. Organizers say they hope students leave inspired by today's educational lessons.
"The reason we are having that is so we can give them some encouragement, and show them real life examples of people that have gone through a rough road, but still have been able to have a huge outcome and great success with it," says Steve Elliott, President, Joplin Hacemos Chapter.
