The Youngstown Business Incubato (YBI), Turning Technologies and Turning Foundation, would like to announce their partnership with the launch of the Ed Tech Idea Challenge Grant Program.

Educational technology has grown incredibly over the past decade, focused on supporting teaching and learning, and meeting the needs of a digital generation.  With the acceleration of that growth, there is a growing demand for solutions that use technology in creative ways to impact instruction and improve academic outcomes. The Ed Tech Idea Challenge grant program is designed to help meet this growing demand focused on the answers to two questions:

  1. Where is the next great educational technology idea going to come from?
  2. How can this idea become a marketable reality?

This effort is designed to seed and cultivate innovative ideas among aspiring entrepreneurs with a passion for education. This is an opportunity for edu-innovators to design and launch truly innovative solutions with a particular emphasis on the power of educational technology as a support to improving student outcomes.

This competitive annual grant program is being supported through a partnership of the Turning Foundation, a not-for-profit affiliate of Turning Technologies, LLC., and the Youngstown Business Incubator, a technology-focused entrepreneurial support network located in Youngstown, Ohio.

Ed Tech Idea Challenge is looking for truly great ideas that support improved learning outcomes by engaging and empowering students and teachers with integrated technology solutions that create new approaches to teaching and learning.  Awards will be made to the best ideas presented during an application process. A cash award of up to $20,000 will be available to winning applicants.  Based on the project description, funding will be available to draw down in support of identified product development milestones. Winning applicants will also have full access to the support network provided by the Youngstown Business Incubator.  YBI helps accelerate emerging businesses by providing an array of invaluable services. Facilities, equipment, resource networks, entrepreneurial counseling, and networking opportunities are included in this in-kind award.

A pre-application meeting will be held at the YBI in early November. The pre-application meeting will cover what appropriate steps and forms are needed for the application, along with the introduction of a technical assistance support network and a short course on, “How to Present an Idea.” The deadline for the first round of applications will be due December 14, at 4:30 p.m. EST.
