The Nazareth (Pa.) Area School District is beefing up security at all six schools.
The district has put out an advertisement for a full-time police officer to begin patrolling the schools this coming school year. In the summer months, the officer will concentrate on improving security measures in the district, said Superintendent Dennis Riker.
An Upper Nazareth Township police officer previously served as school resource officer and patrolled the high school, middle school and intermediate school for about seven hours, five days a week. Riker said the resource officer had an office at the high school and middle school and had been responsible for investigations, citations and assisting administrators with security needs.
