The Surry County Board of Education has named Lucas Gillispie as the Surry County School System director of academic and digital learning. Gillispie presently serves as district instructional technology coordinator in Pender County Schools.

According to School Superintendent Dr. Travis Reeves, the 2014-2015 State Board of Education goals and the Surry County Schools strategic plan both include the need to customize and personalize education for students and Gillispie’s post serves as another way to continue personalized education in the county school system.

He said the move was made possible by splitting existing resources between three positions following the retirement of Assistant Superintendent Dr. Terri Mosley, with Dr. Jeff Tunstall and Dr. Jill Reinhardt serving as assistant superintendents and a director’s position opening up for Gillispie.
