The school district is welcoming a new face in town as the provider for student transportation in Carlsbad.
Ballard Bus Inc., which declared bankruptcy in December, recently underwent a name and management change after being bought out by Chris Hamill of Roswell. The sale was finalized July 3, and the company is now operating under the name Valley Transportation, Hamill said.
Not much is going to change for the school district. The friendly faces of the bus drivers who Carlsbad students are used to seeing will remain the same. At Tuesday's school board meeting, Don Owen, director of operations for Carlsbad Municipal Schools, said the school buses will take the same routes as last school year. But after evaluation, that may change.
Hamill said he will evaluate the efficiency of the routes after the first few days of school and decide whether or not a consolidation is in order to reduce costs. He will report to Owen, and the two will discuss the best option to take.
