New California school focuses on innovation

Bonsall High won’t have a football team, many students or even its own campus when it opens in August, but it will have an approach to teaching unlike any other school in the county.

“What we’re really looking at here is a high school that will be something extremely innovative, something for this century and not from last century,” said Justin Cunningham, superintendent of Bonsall Unified School District.

Bonsall High will be a New Tech model school, one of only about 150 in the nation and 20 in California. The model focuses intensely on collaborative, project-based learning and team-teaching among other strategies designed to enhance critical thinking skills to prepare students for college or careers.
