New career-tech education center to open in Oregon

The Salem-Keizer School Board on Tuesday approved the 2014-15 budget and moved forward with plans to open a new career and technical education center for high school students.

It's the first time since 2009 that the General Fund budget, which totals $395 million, includes an uptick in revenue.

School district officials plan to spend the extra $9.9 million to hire more teachers and counselors to reduce kindergarten through third-grade class sizes, purchase instructional materials and fund the new CTE center.
