Ronardo Reeves admits there was something different about him as he grew up in an inner-city neighborhood of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.
"My English was pretty proper," he said. "It wasn't cool to walk down the street and pronounce your words correctly, but I didn't mind."
Reeves' mother, a school district police officer, strongly encouraged him and his brother and sister to speak proper English. But he was the only one who followed her advice.
