Thursday, April 10, 2014

Officials from the Schools Development Authority are in Newark this morning to announce the start of construction of three Newark schools that have been in development for years.

Charles McKenna, chief executive of the NJSDA, will join Newark Superintendent Cami Anderson, Sen. Teresa Ruiz and others at the site of the future Elliott Street Elementary School on Summer Avenue in the North Ward to announce the projects. The new construction is in addition to money pledged for repairing other city schools.

Officials will also tour the construction sites of the Oliver Street School and South Street School. In 2009, then Gov. Jon Corzine held a press conference on the Oliver Street site to announce that construction on the three-story, grade 3-8 school would begin shortly.
