Armed with a blow torch, a 24 by 6 piece of vinyl and a few simple tools, Frank Hricak from Designer Wraps installed the first ads to adorn Washington Township’s school buses.
The bright yellow advertisement for Sahara Sam’s indoor and outdoor waterpark will be featured on the sides of 53 of the district's 80-plus fleet, joining Deptford as the first two districts in Gloucester County to partner with SchoolBusAds.org, run by the Educational Information and Resource Center (EIRC) of Mullica Hill.
While the EIRC instituted a pilot program with a few Comcast advertisements on Atlantic County and Camden school buses last September, this is the first major launch of a long-term advertising contract. Sahara Sam’s ads will be on the buses for a total of 14 months. EIRC doesn’t charge for summer months, when they’ll get reduced use.
“Now it’s starting to take off in Washington Township and Deptford,” said Alicia Truman, marketing director of the EIRC. “They’re going to be the big start to the program.”
