North Carolina CIO returns after nine-month hiatus

Movies often portray technologically savvy people as someone wearing thick-rimmed glasses or embodying the character Steve Urkel.

But that portrayal doesn’t fit Burke County Public Schools Chief Information Officer Melanie Honeycutt, who is responsible for running every computer system in BCPS’s digitalized learning environment.

After a nine-year hiatus, Honeycutt has rejoined the staff of BCPS to help prepare students for the rapidly changing technological world.

“This is home,” she said of her recent return to Burke County.
