Ohio school district may lease mineral rights to gas and oil industry

The Rolling Hills Local School District may soon benefit directly from the gas and oil industry boom in Guernsey County.

During its regular meeting on Thursday evening, the board learned that mineral rights to the land on which school property sits are being released to the district.

With those rights returned to the district, officials will have the opportunity to lease mineral rights for gas and oil reserves that may lie under school property.

Superintendent Ryan Caldwell said the property encompasses more than 100 acres.
