One year in job, Jersey City schools superintendent's central office restructuring wins praise

One year after being hired to run the state’s second largest public school district, Jersey City Schools Superintendent Marcia V. Lyles is reshaping the district’s central administration, most recently with the hiring of a chief academic officer.

The position, a new one for the 29,000-student district, will be filled by Jason Bing Schetelick, at an annual salary of $170,700. The vote was nearly unanimous at the Aug. 27 Board of Education meeting.

Schetelick, who resigned abruptly in July as Bloomfield’s schools superintendent, becomes the latest member of Lyles’ widening inner circle.
