Pennsylvania auditor general to audit Pittsburgh Public Schools

Pennsylvania's auditor general announced today that he will audit Pittsburgh Public Schools, a system that expects to go bankrupt in 2016 unless it changes course.

In a press release, state Auditor General Eugene DePasquale said he was concerned about declining school enrollment, ballooning pensions costs and the cost of sending the district’s schoolchildren to charter schools.

“It is no secret that the public school system in Pittsburgh is facing some serious challenges,” Mr. DePasquale said in the news release. “The goal of our audit is to identify a path to solution to these challenges.”
