Pennsylvania voters favor using a school funding formula

A statewide poll showed public support for using a formula to distribute state school funding, and education advocates said Tuesday that a proposed commission to examine the issue is a critical first step.

About 72 percent of those surveyed by Terry Madonna Opinion Research said they favor using a funding formula, and about 71 percent said the state's investment in schools should be larger. Five statewide education organizations, that paid to have questions included in the poll, held a conference call with reporters Tuesday to discuss the results.

Jim Buckheit, executive director of the Pennsylvania Association of School Administrators, said the poll reflects what the organizations have heard from their members.
