Billionaire Chicago businesswoman Penny Pritzker resigned from the Chicago Board of Education effective yesterday, according to a letter she sent to Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel.
The reason for her decision to resign could not be confirmed immediately. Pritzker is currently being vetted as a candidate for U.S. Commerce Secretary. An appointment to the federal post would require her to step down from other governmental roles.
The three sentence resignation letter does not refer to the cabinet position in President Barack Obama’s administration.
