Philip Hickman chosen as Mississippi district superintendent

The Columbus Municipal School District Board of Trustees selected Dr. Philip Hickman as its superintendent of schools during a special meeting today.

Hickman, 38, comes to Columbus from Houston, Texas, where he served as an assistant superintendent in the country's seventh-largest school district.

He was selected by a 3-2 vote by the board, with board president Angela Verdell, Greg Lewis and Currie Fisher voting to select Hickman. Jason Spears and Glenn Lautzenhiser cast the no votes.
