Project-based learning shown in Nipomo, Calif., students' reenactment

The soldier gasped for air as he made one final attempt to crawl toward the nurses, finally succumbing to the poison of a chemical weapon.

The soldier was a 15-year-old student, and the event was part of a re-enactment at his school’s second World War I museum exhibit.

More than 100 students from Central Coast New Tech High School in Nipomo gathered Feb. 25 in booths erected to simulate everything from early 1900s-era medical tents to a U-boat containing a replica torpedo designed to entertain and educate family and friends while demonstrating the school’s project-based learning philosophy.
