Proposal would check backgrounds of all Kansas school employees

People who work with children in Kansas schools but have never had a criminal background check would soon get one, if a new bill becomes law.

State Sen. Greg Smith has proposed adding mandatory fingerprinting and background checks for custodians, cooks and other people who have contact with students.

The Shawnee Mission School District already conducts these types of screenings, paying $50 per employee to do them.
