Public schools turn to private fund-raising around St. Louis

Faced with $5 million in budget cuts this year, there isn’t money in the Ferguson-Florissant School District to build up a robotics program and other initiatives.

Educators say those science, technology, math and engineering programs can keep their students on par with their peers, not only in competitions but later in life.

So those in the Ferguson-Florissant district are turning to a method once reserved for their private school peers: establishing a foundation for major fundraising and donations.
