For quality education, try some quality discipline

Schools are places of teaching and learning. They are not penal institutions. The purpose of schools is to help students learn and grow. Penal institutions are punishment focused. Schools ought to be learning focused.

To accomplish a learning goal, there needs to be sensible discipline. Let us understand the difference between discipline and punishment, often wrongly used interchangeably.

Punishment is a penalty for a breach of law as a result of one’s actions. It is needed in order to maintain a civil society.

Discipline is a system of control in order to establish a given environment. Punishment is not the focus — learning ought to be the outcome of discipline.
