Both the business administrator and superintendent were granted merit pay this year by the Lyndhurst Board of Education, officials recently confirmed. However, public disclosure of the amounts and when they were awarded by the board remains cloudy.
Board of Education president Ellen Young addressed the audience at the Nov. 12 board meeting seeking to dispel "rumors" contained in anonymous letters about the merit distributed immediately before the election. Young described the board's reasoning behind granting merit pay.
Meeting minutes, bill lists and other documentation don't indicate that merit pay was issued, suggesting the payment was done without a paper trail and may not have been publicly confirmed had it not been for Young's address.
