A referendum to build a new Wisconsin Dells high school went down to defeat by five votes in the spring election Tuesday according to unofficial results.

The unofficial results showed 1,388 voted no or against building the school and 1,383 voted yes or for building the new high school.

The current high school would also be remodeled and converted to a middle school. The initial plans called for a $50 million project including a swimming pool, gyms and auditorium but the district asked for donations from individuals and businesses to fund some of those facilities.
