R.I. Ed Chief Urges Charter Closure

Rhode Island's education commissioner is recommending the closure of a Providence charter high school, citing low math scores and leadership problems.

Commissioner Deborah Gist (gihst) is urging members of the board of regents not to renew the Academy for Career Exploration's charter when it expires after the 2012-2013 school year.

The recommendation is contained in materials issued in advance of the board's Thursday meeting.
