A former Armstrong High School principal who has held districtwide positions in three Virginia school systems has been named the interim superintendent of Richmond Public Schools.
Following a Wednesday night vote by the Richmond School Board, Jonathan L. Lewis will take over Monday, replacing Yvonne W. Brandon, who was forced out after five years on the job.
Brandon’s departure was announced in April, and her tenure ends this week. She was not present at Wednesday’s meeting. However, School Board Chairman Jeff M. Bourne, 3rd District, said she had left a transition plan and didn’t expect the two-month lag in appointing an interim superintendent to be detrimental.
