The community around Grapeland Elementary School and Etiwanda Intermediate School are looking forward to implementation of the city's Safe Routes to School policy through the construction of sidewalks and crossing beacons for students.
The city council on Wednesday is expected to consider authorizing legal advertisement of the construction project on May 21 and May 28. The project is expected to go out to bid in June, with a month-long construction beginning in July when students are out for summer, said city engineer Romeo David.
The project, which involves the construction of sidewalks, curbs and gutters, ramps, and flashing beacons on streets around the two schools which are located next to each other on Etiwanda Avenue.
Residents in the area have expressed an interest in having a separated pathway for their children to walk on Etiwanda Avenue near Grapeland Elementary School and Etiwanda Intermediate School.
