San Antonio ISD names lone superintendent finalist

South San Antonio Independent School District trustees voted late Wednesday to name its interim superintendent - Abelardo “Abe” Saavedra - as the lone finalist to lead the district.

The vote was 6-0, with trustee Joseph “JoeJo” Savage absent. By law, the board will have to wait 21 days before voting to make him the new superintendent.

South San's high turnover of top administrators has caused frustration within the community and escalated to the point in recent months that elected officials had suggested the state could intervene to stabilize its financial and governance problems.
