School Districts Offer Online Alternatives to Traditional Classroom Instruction

In a room full of computers, more than a dozen high school students sat quietly, either working in small groups or alone.

"I wanted to try something different, something I could concentrate on more," Larissa Dominguez said.

Last year, she had been a freshman at Alta Loma High School in the Chaffey Joint Union High School District. By anyone else's standards, she'd done well, getting Bs and Cs, but she felt the chaos of high school life was holding her back. Now, she's one of the students attending the new Chaffey District Online High School.

"I wanted to be home schooled," she said, "but this is better, because there's a teacher here."
