Schools need more calamity days this year, Ohio governor says

Gov. John Kasich wants lawmakers to increase the number of days schools can close this year due to bad weather.

With more frigid temperatures forecast for this week likely to cause additional school closings, the governor wants a one-time increase from the current five “calamity days” schools can use before they have to start adding school days at the end of the year.

Many central Ohio schools districts have one or two calamity days remaining.
