With North Penn School District moving forward with placing advertising in its schools, Souderton Area School District has put a tentative foot on the advertising bandwagon.
The school board’s finance committee invited the owner of a Lancaster-based company that acts as a middleman between districts and would-be advertisers to a meeting to pitch his services recently and explain how advertising may benefit the district.
Jeff Bertoni, a former teacher, co-founded Market Street Sports group about seven years ago. They’d collaborate with representatives at the district to identify some prominent local businesses, and the firm would approach them and ask if they’d be interested in paying the district in exchange for having their ads in the schools.
Rates would start at $5,000 and he suggested that contracts be for three years. Market Street would handle details such as contract negotiations and billing, and other services if needed, such as graphic design, in exchange for 30 percent of the revenue.
