South Dakota district approves $5.2 million for new school

After nine months and three failed bonds that would help their district expand, leaders of the Tea Area School District took a major step forward Monday night so they could do just that.

Monday evening, board members approved to take out $5.2 million in capital outlay certificates to build a new elementary school. The school will be located next to Family Wellness Center on South Ellis Road on the western side of Sioux Falls. It will include six classrooms, one for each grade junior kindergarten through fourth. Starting the school off small district leaders said will give them the room the district needs now and the opportunity to expand in the future.

President of the Tea School Board John Herr said," This is our first stop in getting our long range plan so we have classrooms for the next generations."
