South Jersey Districts Seek Approval for Tax Increases

School administrators cite rising salary costs, new curriculum standards and spikes in special education enrollment for a budget trend pushing tax levy caps to the maximum.

Multiple school districts in the region have submitted 2013-14 budgets for approval with increases at or near the 2 percent cap. Those districts include Cherry Hill, Haddonfield, Black Horse Pike Regional, Moorestown, Mount Laurel and Kingsway Regional.

Black Horse Regional School District Business Administrator Jean Grubb said the 2 percent increase will help the district hire new teachers and help fund district capital projects.
