Stroudsburg School District Hires Back 15 Who Were Laid Off

Stroudsburg Area School Board voted Wednesday night to hire back 15 of the nearly 60 teachers that were laid off earlier this year.

The majority of those called back will fill vacancies created by an early retirement incentive the board approved last month, said Business Manager Don Jennings.

Under that incentive, 21 positions were vacated, and the district's administration recommended calling back 13 teachers to fill the equivalent of 12 full-time jobs and one part-time job.

A chemistry teacher's position at the high school and an elementary teacher's position at Clearview Elementary will be filled by the other two teachers on the call back list, Jennings said.
