Summer construction heats up at Mobile County (Ala.) schools

With students away for the summer, the Mobile County school system is finishing up several construction projects and getting ready to launch new ones, including the much-anticipated new school at Calcedeaver Elementary in northwest Mobile County.

Officials hope to break ground on the Calcedeaver school in the next four weeks, said Rena Philips, the school system’s marketing supervisor. On April 17, the Mobile County school board approved a donation of 30.9 acres from the Tensaw Land and Timber Co., valued at $90,000, for the site of the new school.

The new Taylor-White Elementary School in west Mobile is “basically complete,” Philips said. Workers have been moving furniture in, and the administrative staff will likely report to school next week.
